Archers of Henry V’s exhausted and diseased army shoot their deadly arrows at the first wave of French cavalry, repulsing their attack and sending the survivors back into the path of the main French army. The English victory on the muddy battlefield of Agincourt was immortalized by Shakespeare and confirmed the place of the longbowman in the nation’s history.
