Pilot Officer Willliam Fiske III of No. 601 Sqn RAF, an American volunteer, engaged the enemy over Tangmere on Aug 16 1940.


His Hurricane was damaged in combat, and as he attempted to recover to base he was killed by pursuing Me109s.
